FAQ

How Can We Help Answer Your Questions?

Learn more about how the Traversa can help you increase efficiency, cut costs, and boost revenue for your NEMT business.

How is the Traversa Transport Wheelchair different than other Broda products?

The Traversa Transport Wheelchair is designed especially for non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) companies to use with multiple passengers per day. This wheelchair is intended for transit purposes only.

Broda’s original product line of personal wheelchairs, shower commodes, and gliders are intended for use by one specific person, for as long as that person needs assistance with mobility and comfort in their everyday lives.

While many of Broda’s personal wheelchair products are WC19 certified for vehicle transit, these wheelchairs are intended to provide enhanced freedom for the wheelchair owner. They aren’t intended for commercial NEMT use.

Will the Traversa Transport Wheelchair fit in my vehicle?

In order to use the Traversa, you will need a wheelchair-accessible van or minivan. This vehicle should have a minimum height clearance of 48” and a ramp or lift that is a minimum of 29” wide. The Traversa is compatible with both rear-entry and side-entry ramps, although if you have a side-entry ramp, we highly recommend upgrading your wheelchair to include the optional Pivot Assist System, which allows you to turn the wheelchair to face forward once in the van. Your vehicle must also have a floor-mounted wheelchair securement system, such as one from Q’Straint.

No! Unlike a stretcher or gurney, one person can safely operate the Traversa Transport Wheelchair. The wheelchair is easy to maneuver and does not present a tip or fall hazard. It is easy to push, raise and lower the wheelchair, reposition the occupant, and wheel the passenger onto a ramp or lift. With this equipment, a single operator can even eliminate much of the potential risk of transporting people with limited mobility.
